Centering Prayer -- POSTPONED

Since the Desert Fathers began to explore the holy presence in their lives by withdrawing to their caves, Christians have been seeking ways to focus their lives in God.

One of the ways that we have experienced this holy presence is through Centering Prayer that was popularized by the word of Abbot Thomas Keating.

The Abbot writes;

"As in human friendship, there is a conversational level. But as friendship grows more intimate, the level of communion develops, where the two can sit together and say nothing. If they say nothing, does that mean they are not finding deep enjoyment in the relationship? There are obviously different ways and different levels of expressing one's relationship with another person and with God. God clearly deals with us in a personal way. This prayer adds a dimension to one's relationship with God that is more intimate than the other levels. There is nothing wrong with vocal prayer, but it isn't t the only way or the most profound way of praying." (from Open Mind, Open Heart by Fr. Thomas Keating)

While this is only one of a number of ways to approach God, centering prayer offers us the depth of relationship and a breadth of experience that will enrich anyone who longs for God's presence in their life.
